PUMAs Not Welcome

So sayeth Jeralyn of Talk Left; and nope, no link.

Repugs are always welcome...let's make that distinction clearly, she writes.

Hell, No Quarter has more traffic and better insight, anyway. And even when PUMAs were welcome, we were always scolded like little children and told to toe the line and behave; that is, worship at the altar of The Chosen One and join the fun and games designed to make us laugh.

But all that conjuring up and guessing as to when Sarah would disappear soon grew old. After all, how wrong could one person be, everyone but Jeralyn knew the Palin pick by McCain was a stroke of genius.

Palin has not dropped out and is doing quite well: packing rallies for McCain just like Obama used to do way back in the day when everyone loved him except those who didn't.

Biden Rumor Persists

Like California wildfires in early fall, rumors about Biden quitting the Democratic presidential ticket refuse to die.

Eleven days ago (a lifetime in blog years), Howling Latina mentioned the growing buzz and lo and behold, today Fox News has a post about the "Internet rumor [that has been] surging through inboxes and discussion boards...Joe Biden will drop out as Barack Obama’s running mate."

Geez, can't imagine why; things have been going so splendidly for Obama and Biden...

Foxy Fox notes how Fight the Smears, a site especially designed to quash any falsehood making its way through the Internet has failed to weigh in on the matter.

Hell, even "Snopes.com, a site devoted to picking apart online rumors and urban legends, has labeled the status of the claim 'undetermined.'"

The way this whole presidential election has unfolded with the losing candidate receiving the most votes in the Democratic primary, absolutely nothing would surprise H/L. And yes, that includes McCain's latest flip-flopping on the debate.

McCain Hopeful...

Ever the optimistic clown, McCain is hopeful that he can throw under the bus his stupid political stunt from yesterday that backfired louder than freckled-faced Bozo the Clown's old jalopy.

Yep, you guess it, McCain is re-thinking his debate strategy and throwing the whole idea under the bus. The Swamp reports that McCain is now open to the idea of showing up -- meaning he'll be there with trumpets and horns.

You may surmise the idea of 100 million viewers tuning in to watch the debates only to see an empty chair with Obama holding court all by his lonesome lost some of its appeal in 24 hours.
McCain, asked, as a betting man, if he expects to appear at Friday night's debate, said in an appearance on the NBC Evening News: "I am a betting man.. I'd like to say that I'm very hopeful, I'm very hopeful that we'll get enough of an agreement tomorrow that we'll be able to make this debate.''
Obama wisely refused to play along and insisted the debate move forward.

Hmmm, can't wait to see how McCain spins this tomorrow. Meanwhile in the real world, folks gotta wonder if they want to see another president filled with arrogant certitude and a gambling spirit in the White House. Not much of a choice for voters: Either gun-ho John or janus-faced, messianic Obama.

Update: Either McCain is short of $$$ or he's dumber than we thought. The Swamp reports that he released some ad time and guess who scooped it all up...?

Here's some of the dialogue for the show to be aired tonight.

H/T The Swamp.

Obama Responds To Debate Suspension

If you want be president, gotta be able to walk and chew gum at the same time...

McCain Gimmick

Howling Latina has to call it as she sees it and this latest bit of news about McCain skipping the Friday debate unless a bail-out deal is inked in Congress sounds more than a bit self-serving, contrived and awfully stupid to boot.

Self-serving in the sense that McCain's poll numbers have been plunging; and even though the debate was supposed to be on foreign policy, presidential candidates were bound to have to answer a question or two on the subject of the latest Wall Street debacle. As most can surmise, McCain hasn't exactly lit the Jeopardy board with his economic message during the last couple of weeks.

Contrived in the manner that calling the debates off with his polls in the toilet is oh, just so convenient that practically every person in the universe sees it for what it is: a devised distraction to take away the focus from his half-baked banal answers to the momentous financial meltdown.

For stupid, please refer to self-serving and contrived as explicated above.

Update: H/L has a bullshit meter that usually pays off dividends. Talk Left reports that McCain is still planning to attend the "Global Initiative in New York on Thursday" but is way, way too preoccupied to attend the Friday debate at the University of Mississippi.

If Troy Davis is Executed...

According to some, if the Supreme Court refuses to halt the execution of Troy Davis, it's Hillary Clinton's fault, of course.

What...you didn't you get the memo?? Every outrage in the world is her fault.

Supreme Court Halts Troy Davis Execution

The state of Georgia was less than two hours away from executing an innocent man when the U.S. Supreme Court stepped in.

On numerous occasions, Howling Latina has written about the gawd-awful state of affairs in the case of Troy Davis. Thank a few good angels above as well as the Supreme Court for stopping this huge miscarriage of justice from being carried out.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Court stayed the execution and next Monday will decide whether or not to "hear Davis’ appeal of a ruling issued by the Georgia Supreme Court in March."

In that 4-3 decision, the state Supreme Court rejected Davis’ bid for a new trial or a court hearing to present new evidence.

[...]

Since his 1991 trial, seven of nine key prosecution witnesses who testified against Davis have recanted their testimony.

In March, a deeply divided state Supreme Court turned down Davis’ appeal, saying the recantations of seven witnesses who testified against him were not enough to win him a new trial or court hearing.

Unfortunately if the Court refuses to hear the appeal, Davis will be executed without any further ado -- and guilt will have absolutely nothing to do with it.

Update: Rev. Al Sharpton has arrived on the scene.

Sharpton has joined a growing chorus of prominent figures calling for Georgia to spare the life of the 39-year-old, who is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection Tuesday night for the 1989 murder of Savannah police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail.

“If you have this kind of wide array of people who don’t agree on much, but who believe that clemency is needed in this case, that should impress upon [the Georgia State Pardons and Parole Board] to give him another opportunity to show that there is not reasonable doubt,” Sharpton said.

Indeed, the chorus of wide-ranging luminaries asking the Court, the parole board, ANYONE to stop the madness is very impressive: Libertarian candidate Bob Barr, former President Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, Amnesty International, Nobel Peace Prize-winner Desmond Tutu and former FBI director William S. Sessions -- a capital punishment proponent.

Still Not Drinking The Unity Kool Aid

Oh, oh. Three months after Hillary "ended her bid and threw her support to Obama," her supporters are still refusing to drink the unity kool aid.

CQ Politics reports that Obama has failed to move the needle in three months with only 58 percent of Hillary supporters favoring Obama today -- the exact number as in June. What's more, "the share of Clinton supporters saying they'll vote for Republican John McCain grew from 21 percent to 28 percent, with the number of undecided staying constant."

So much for all everyone falling in line behind The Chosen One -- especially after Obama rejected Hillary as his running mate.

Oh Obama, why did you forsake 18 million voters??

Who is for ME?

Leave it to good ol' Mountain Mama to sum up in three words an entire campaign theme.

At a well-received rally in Pikeville, KY., Hillary told a cheering crowd yesterday that it was time to stop asking the wrong question on Election Day.

Rather than asking themselves who they are for, Clinton said, voters should ask “who is for me? Who is for me and my family, my community, my schools, my job in the coal mines, my veterans, my young people serving in the military right now?”
Hillary was swinging through Kentucky and rallying her supporters to vote for Bruce Lunsford who is running against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

No shrinking violet, Mr. Lunsford hammered McConnell and the Republican Party for their ill-advised economic policies: "[D]eregulate when times are good and bail ‘em out when times are bad – not you but them – every time.”

What a great tribute to Hillary it would be if Mitch McConnell were to lose on Nov. 4, just as Lunsford reminded his enthusiastic fans; and after listening to Obama's uninspiring circuitous drivel, mygawd, couldn't we just all cry when we realize that this whole election could have easily been wrapped up long ago with Hillary as the candidate and four little words: Who is for me??

Support Obama or You're a Racist

If poor blameless Obama loses in November, it's all those low-information, inbred racist Hillary supporters that will have cost him the race.

That's right; it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Obama has thugs for pals, an oversized ego, the flimsiest of resume, no moral authority, a racist for a preacher and a myriad of other deficiencies such as his meaningless blather about hope and change without any specificity attached to his words; nope, it's not Obama's fault if he loses.

You see, only "59 percent of Clinton’s white Democratic supporters wan[t] Obama to be president." And that can only mean one thing. Racism. Why, imagine the sheer audacious impudence of them not to drink the Obama kool aid.

But don't just take the media's word for it. Here's a little scientific evidence designed to really convince you.
To detect unreported racial biases, the study, among other metrics, sat those interviewed in front of monitors, using black and white faces to “measure implicit racial attitudes, or prejudices that are so deeply rooted that people may not realize they have them.” The survey then used statistical modeling to estimate how representative those interviewed were of the electorate overall.
Hmmm, not convinced yet?? Don't feel bad; you're not alone and you're not insane. On the other side of the ledger, here is what one commentator from an earlier WaPo column about "racial prejudice" had to say on the subject that just might make more sense.
This man, Barack Obama, who has used the most corrupt variety of politics in an inordinately cynical and perverse manner throughout his own career to undeservedly leap-frog his way ahead, is now set to bring the greatest disappointment of a generation.

Not because he is black.

Because he should never have run in the first place.

He is far too inexperienced to be the top of the ticket.
And here's another point to consider from the same column:
If Obama loses, and it's a real possibility given his tissue thin resume, then, Mr. Kennedy, you'll understand the pain and frustration felt by the 18 million people who invested THEIR hopes and dreams in Hillary Clinton's historic candidacy.
And another one:
"Sellout" more appropriately describes the politics of Barack Obama, who is changing, refining, re-defining, nuancing one policy position after another in his quest for the presidency. A case of rather forsaking integrity to win the election.

Clinton A-Team to the Rescue

The Washington Post reports that Obama is relying on the Clinton A-team to school him on economics.

So much for all that childish prattle about President Bill Clinton not being a transformative power and really what the hell did he ever do for his country while in the White House.

Yep, that kind of rhetoric has been thrown under the bus along with Obama's grandma, brother, spiritual adviser, Senate Dems, FISA, gun control, town hall debates, and hell, yes, even hope and change.

In the debate about what to do in the latest financial crisis, WaPo observes that "Obama appears to have one clear advantage" over Mc Cain and it's got nothing to do with "change."
His campaign has been able to bulk up quickly, bringing in an array of major players from the Clinton administration who helped guide the nation through market upheavals, including the crises in Russia, Argentina and Southeast Asia and the collapse of the massive hedge fund Long-Term Capital Management. In the past few weeks, an eclectic and largely low-profile team of economic advisers at the Obama campaign headquarters has been practically taken over by the Clinton A-team.

Oh, and what's this the Post is also saying...?

Why it seems the Clinton administration tried to "increase regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac" back in those non-transformative days of the 90s. Never mind the transmutation business, how's that for a whole lot of discernment from a person who knew what the hell he was doing?

Howling Latina sure hopes 'I haven't got a clue' Nancy and Harry. Donna and Howard, Jesse Jr., and Clyburn and the rest of the fun bunch who brought us Obama are paying close attention. We've got a crisis on our hands and the most talented and ablest person is politically marginalized because of YOUR STUPIDITY!

Nevertheless, Hillary refuses to be sidelined; and Anglachel's Journal helpfully posts Hillary's statement on the ungodly financial mess, which is more logical than anything else the howler has seen or read.

Dumb and Dumber

Polls show McCain beating Obama by a comfortable lead in Ohio.

Toledo Blade
reports that "[i]n the battle for Ohio's 20 electoral votes, Republican presidential nominee John McCain holds a 48 percent to 42 percent lead over Democratic opponent Barack Obama."

Guess the howler doesn't need to remind folks that Dems don't win presidential elections without Ohio, does she...?

So much for Donna Brazille's new electoral map; looks a lot like Rove's math in '06.

TOTAL BOGUS.

A Few Good Ones...

After Morgan Stanley lost 39 percent of its value in one week, Bloomberg reported that Sen. Hillary Clinton urged the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to ban the short-sale of Wall Street brokerages to stop panic sell-offs.

Well, lo and behold, a few days later, the SEC followed Clinton's advice according to The Wall Street Journal.

Meanwhile, presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain have been missing in action with their deafening silence on what to do. Ditto for Nancy and Harry. Fortunately though, there is a guy with some balls in Congress.

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) is quickly moving a bill through Congress that would "authorize purchases of up to $700 billion in mortgage-related assets at any given time and giving the department sweeping authority for at least two years to carry out the enterprise.

Yikes! Seven hundred billion is an awful lot of $$$ and future red ink. And speaking of red, there goes that little red bike for Xmas we had hoped to give to our grandkids in the future.

Included in the Dem proposal is relief for homeowners with "foreclosure-relief language" and language that "impose[s] compensation limits on Wall Street executives." No golden parachute for executives; this is a Dem bill, after all.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is resisting any restrain on executive perks, of course. But one good question to ask Mr. Paulson is why in God's green little acre should executives be paid for miserably failing while taxpayers are left footing the bill of their incompetence?? Nah, let them enjoy the fruits of their mismanagement by joining the same unemployment line as other Bush cronies.

One final honorable note: President Herbert Hoover, er, George Bush has been silent on the economic import of the mortgage meltdown as well.

Repairing the Democratic Brand -- An Exclusive Interview

Esquire writes that Sen. Jim Webb has done more to repair the Democratic brand with the military "since the Democrats ran afoul of the rank and file during the Vietnam era by appearing not so much antiwar as antimilitary."
Webb's new GI Bill, passed this year, will treat returning Iraq veterans much the same way World War II veterans were treated when the GI Bill was first conceived. A highly decorated marine in Vietnam, a secretary of the Navy under Reagan, and an early favorite to be Barack Obama's running mate, Webb withdrew from consideration, saying that he was content in the Senate, prompting Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to tell us: "Jim Webb is that rarity in Washington. He knows himself."
Here's the link to the exclusive no-holds barred interview with Jim Webb.

Another Voice Verbalizes the Axiomatic

Donald Trump, who "donated to Hillary Clinton, according to records posted by the Center for Responsive Politics" is endorsing McCain and reproaching Obama for not picking Hillary, Politico writes.

I don't understand why Hillary wasn't chosen [for vice president],” Trump said. “She was really winning. I have a friend that came to this country and was here for the last four weeks of that whole election. He said: How did she lose? She won every primary? He didn't understand it.

“The fact is, that Obama went limping across the finish line. He should have chosen Hillary, It would have been a much different race, I believe. Right now, it looks to me like McCain is probably winning.”

Howling Latina is no fan of Trump; he's a pompous gasbag; and anytime he's on television, she usually switches the channel. Nevertheless, Trump didn't get rich by being an idiot. And the man is right on the money with his observation on Obama's choice. It showed lack of vision and a certain vindictiveness to which Palin is now being accused of (and may well be guilty of as well).

Gotta love how the pots are calling the kettles black. Ooops, didn't mean to pull the race card, Donna.

Brownies in the Making...

Howling Latina didn't have a chance to read yesterday's New York Times article about Palin's exclusive public service program for friends. Perhaps a little late but worth a post.

It seems Palin offered jobs to pals who had no visible qualifications for state jobs and fired perceived enemies.

"Throughout her career, Ms. Palin has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and blurred the line between government and personal grievance," Times writes, although their initial example of the inside hook-up is not the best in the bunch.

You see, Times hints at the relative inexperience of a Palin school chum and former real estate agent who now runs the Division of Agriculture with a $2 million budget and singularly lists for readers "her childhood love of cows" as her avowed qualifying measure, which is not exactly true since Franci Havemeister's husband comes from a line of dairy farmers and surely she picked up somethin' of use to her professional duties during routine family conversations with hubby and in-laws.
Franci was fascinated with farms and particularly milk cows as a young person. After moving to the valley with her folks, she was immersed in a community filled with many farm families. Not surprisingly her fascination with cows and farms eventually introduced her to her future husband, the son of dairy farmers. Franci has seen, first hand, the challenges that Alaska dairy farmers experienced and wanted a change - a good and positive change. One where farmers not only made a descent living, but were respected for their hard work, knowledge and contribution to the social and economic fabric of Alaska.
Moreover, although a whole $2 million may sound like a lot, when you consider it only takes one house sale every month or so to rack up annual revenue of $2 million or more, the agency's budget doesn't loom as menacingly huge.

But the article does cite a number of troubling examples of nepotism; and a certain pettiness and peevishness on the part of Ms. Palin that reminds HL of the current occupant in the White House. Professionals getting canned at will and incompetent lapdogs taking their place.
The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government. Ms. Palin appointed Mr. Bitney, her former junior high school band-mate, as her legislative director and chose another classmate, Joe Austerman, to manage the economic development office for $82,908 a year. Mr. Austerman had established an Alaska franchise for Mailboxes Etc.
Just a small town girl in a big, big world bringing trusted friends along for counsel and security, except after everything this country has gone through with Bush lapdogs and Rovian maneuvers, this little bit of news does not endear Ms. Palin to the howler.

In 1997, Ms. Palin fired the longtime city attorney, Richard Deuser, after he issued the stop-work order on a home being built by Don Showers, another of her campaign supporters.

Your attorney, Mr. Showers told Ms. Palin, is costing me lots of money.

“She told me she’d like to see him fired,” Mr. Showers recalled. “But she couldn’t do it herself because the City Council hires the city attorney.” Ms. Palin told him to write the council members to complain.

And sure enough as the story notes, poor Mr. Deuser soon got the ax. How barracuda-like endearing...

John McCain's Disability

For the last day or so, the blogosphere has been on fire castigating Barack Obama for mocking McCain because he doesn't do emails. You see, poor McCain suffered beatings as a prisoner during the Vietnam war and that's why he can't "raise his arm above his shoulder" or type on a keyboard.

Oh really???

John Cole of Balloon Juice slaps down this pile of horseshit coming out of Jonah Goldberg; and yeah, this is the very same Jonah that traded in gossip, innuendo and groundless rumor mongering during the Clinton years.

No Voter Caging in Ohio...

If Obama loses Ohio, which the howler thinks is very likely, he'll only have his own little self to blame. No shenanigans of the Kerry kind in '08.

Politico reports that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunne has issued an edict. No one will be removed from voting rosters unless each voter is given a hearing. Current law requires a registered letter be sent to every voter in order "to keep a list of voters whose mail is returned as undeliverable."

Well, you can keep all the lists in the world, Ken Blackwell lieutenants but no one is going to be purged. And just a wild prediction by the howler; betcha Cuyahoga County, Hamilton County and Franklin County will have plenty of voting booths with a Dem guarding the hen houses.

Stoking the Fire with Gasoline

Recently, Fred Barnes of The Weekly Standard penned a column dripping with crocodile empathy tears for Democrats who are stuck with Barack Obama and his vice presidential choice.

Of course, everything Mr. Barnes wrote is absolutely true. In short, Obama blew it. Big time. Yet, every time someone like Barnes focuses his punditry on what's wrong with the Democratic presidential ticket, ALL down-ticket Dems are hurt by the meme.

Although Obama's campaign has failed to live up to pledges made to superdelegates to help with organization and $$$, the howler doesn't especially like to read some neocon blabbermouth rue on the foolish predicament Dems now find themselves in, even if it's right on the money.

Well enough of finger-pointing and howling for now; here's what Barnes initially had to say on the subject of party unity, the all-import swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania as well as Arkansas.

Party unity. Democrats have come together fairly well behind the Obama-Biden ticket--but not as well as they would have if Obama had chosen Clinton. We still hear from disgruntled Hillary backers. Reporters have discovered they're easy to find at McCain-Palin rallies. Polls can't tell us how many will ultimately vote for McCain and Palin. But a chunk of them will--perhaps a few million--which means that Democrats aren't as unified as they might have been.

Ohio and Pennsylvania. Republicans figured these states, notably Pennsylvania, were all but goners if Clinton won the Democratic nomination. Even as veep, she'd have had a favorable impact. When she was passed over by Obama, Republicans jumped for joy. Ohio, which a Republican presidential candidate has to win, now leans McCain. Pennsylvania, which is crucial to a Democratic candidate's chances, has become a ripe target of opportunity for McCain.

Arkansas. As a Southern state, Arkansas is inclined to vote Republican in presidential races unless there's a compelling reason not to. One of those reasons: a Clinton on the Democratic ticket. Without Clinton, Arkansas moves into the leaning (strongly)McCain camp.

This is so pathetic. Equal to McCain's selection of Palin, which everyone knows would've never happened in a million years if Hillary had been on the ticket, the howler could just scream bloody murder about electoral map prospects for November; and how GOPers are taking full advantage of Obama's game-changing blunderbuss to hurt the Democratic Party brand and every Dem running in '08. Not that anyone can really blame Republicans; it's just politics; that dirty word that shall remain unspoken...

Pro-Hillary Site Rocking-On

Larry Johnson of No Quarter reports that No Quarter has more hits than FireDogLake, Talk Left and Taylor Marsh. In fact, he's almost up to MyDD numbers.

Go figure...

Is Biden Getting the Boot...?

Rumors are flying...

Somehow the howler has the feeling that any "deal" between the Clintons and Barry before Miss Congeniality hit the national scene is off the table; during last Thursday's meeting between the former president and the wanna-be president, a spanking new deal was being inked that trumped any prior ones.
"I predict that Senator Obama will win and will win pretty handily," the former president said as Obama stood next to him. "That's what I think is going to happen."
Hmmm, what could they've talked about that gives the Big Guy such confidence?? Like Obama reminded the press, "Clinton 'knows a little something about politics."

Tied Up in Knots

In surfing the Web, the howler came across a few items of special interest. The first was a quote from Sarah Palin's interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson. Palin pointed out the obvious. Right about now, Obama is hating life and the day he didn't choose Hillary to be his running mate.
"I think he's regretting not picking her now, I do. What, what determination, and grit, and even grace through some tough shots that were fired her way -- she handled those well," the Alaska governor told Charles Gibson in her third and final exclusive interview with ABC News.
It's obvious Palin and McCain are going after Hillary supporters; and Obama's snub of Hillary may cost him the election.

"The women of America aren't finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all," Palin said as she accepted McCain's invitation to join the 2008 Republican ticket, referring to a line made famous in Clinton's concession to Obama.

[...]

In her June speech ending her historic campaign, Clinton invoked the suffragists who fought for women's right to vote and civil rights leaders who fought on behalf of equal rights for African-Americans as she insisted, "The path will be a little easier next time ... that has always been the history of progress.

"Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling, thanks to you it's got about 18 million cracks in it and the light is shining through like never before," she said.
It's that precious glass ceiling that has the howler tied up in knots; although as Election Day draws closer, she's starting to drink the Obama kool aid and tuning in to Olby and Matthews for re-education.

Meanwhile, the second item of interest is a day's old item from News Day about Bill and Barry's meeting on Thursday to chat about the state of affairs.

It looks as if it's finally dawned on Obama that without Hillary and Bill, he can't win. Hell, even Biden admits that Obama blew it. And in that vein, Politico writes a great post with some really good stuff about what Bill might've told Obama to save the day.

Let's hope Obama listens. Top of the item, publicly humble yourself and apologize to the Clintons and their 18 million supporters.

Ed Rollins on the Democratic Race

Republican operative Ed Rollins of CNN recently stated the obvious. If Hillary had been on the Democratic ticket, none of this business about plunging polls numbers would've ever seen the light of day. Obama was dead wrong to "spurn Hillary."

Ten days ago, Sen. Joe Biden was the most brilliant vice presidential pick imaginable. He was going to add the experience and foreign policy credential that Sen. Barack Obama's thin resume was missing.

The so-called expert commentators were arguing that blue-collar Joe was going to guarantee Pennsylvania (because he was born in Scranton) and other states and get Catholic voters because he is a pro-choice Catholic.

I guess they forgot that Joe didn't do so well with Iowa Catholics (23 percent of the population) when he campaigned there for more than a year in the Democratic caucus race. But then getting less than 1 percent of the vote and coming in fifth place showed he didn't do real well with any voter group in Iowa. Nor did he do well anywhere else, other than Delaware.

[...]

If Obama had done the smart thing, he would have picked Sen. Hillary Clinton for vice president. If he had, he would have united his party for sure and energized his base.

He just couldn't do it and maybe thought he didn't need to do it. He was wrong. That choice would have meant that McCain probably wouldn't have picked Palin. And if McCain had picked anybody else from his shortlist, the Republican convention would have been boring, and the party's base would not have been motivated.

The one thing we know for sure -- the selection of Biden did the least to enhance any ticket since George H.W. Bush picked Dan Quayle back in 1988. This is turning out to be another election the Democrats were convinced they couldn't lose. So far, the selection of Palin has been a game-changer and has energized my party like no one since Ronald Reagan did four decades ago.

The polls are back to even again. The only difference is the Republicans now have a communicator to match Obama and the Democrats have on their ticket an older veteran of Washington politics to match McCain's experience. The reformer Obama who was going to be the candidate of change is now running with Mr. D.C. establishment.

McCain, the maverick who is surrounded and advised by the D.C. establishment, has somehow picked the real reformer who has altered the Alaska political landscape by throwing out the establishment "good old boys" of both parties.

White Women Leaving Obama in Droves

Really, really bad news for the Democratic Party.

In the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, white female voters overwhelmingly prefer McCain over Obama.

Although Obama led McCain by eight point only days ago, after McCain selected Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska to be his running mate, Obama's lead with white women vanished faster than you can say, oops, looks like without Hillary on the ticket we really can't.

White women have moved from 50-42 percent in Obama's favor before the conventions to 53-41 percent for McCain now, a 20-point shift in the margin that's one of the single biggest post-convention changes in voter preferences. The other, also to McCain's advantage, is in the battleground Midwest, where he's moved from a 19-point deficit to a 7-point edge.
Without Party highlights a commenter's quote that perfectly summarizes the huge mistake Dems made by nominating Obama this year and the even bigger mistake they made by leaving Hillary off the ticket.

The Democrats thought this was a safe year in which to play internal power games. I don't blame Obama -- he's an idealistic, ambitious and confident man who was being told by powerful backers that THIS was his moment. But I do blame those powerful players in the Democratic establishment who saw him first and foremost as a vehicle for defeating Hillary and diminishing the Clinton's power -- while aggrandizing their own -- without giving serious thought to the handicap his unknown status and brief national resume would present in the general election.

Perhaps he will carry this off on sheer personality alone, or an unprecedented turnout among a younger generation of voters.

If he doesn't, his loss may have bad long term consequences for the party (and all the rest of us) but also, sadly, it may do long term harm to his once-so-brilliant political prospects.

Read it and weep. The Obama/Biden ticket is bad for country, the Democratic party, Hillary and her 18 million supporters and yes, even brilliant but clueless Obama. It was all about raw power and making sure the stake went straight to the heart of Hill and Bill.

Oh, and more thing; how's that pool working out for you, Jeralyn??

Idiots, Idiots, Every Last One of Them

The mood of this election cycle is once again starting to feel like a funeral wake -- only the dummy doesn't know he's dead yet.

The newest Gallup poll numbers represent more bad news for Obama. Hillary supporters did everything humanly possible to try to warn Dems that to win, Hilary had to be the party's presidential nominee. But not only was she rejected as the presidential candidate but to add injury to insult, she wasn't even considered for the number two spot. Now in quick order, everything for Obama has gone to hell in a handbasket (as we knew it would).

Oh how the children laughed and played and derided the notion that Obama was not ready for prime time. Why Hillary loyalists were simply bitter tig bitties who were stuck in the 20th century when the new millennium had ushered a new electoral map with Obama and his army of young voters and African Americans making up the slack left behind by old hillbillies and she-wolves still clinging to guns and religion.

As the howler watches Obama's campaign implode, this little game of "told-you-so" has ceased to be fun; she's ready for a spanking new game where Hillary leads the Democratic party, there's no Sarah Polin and all is well with nation.

The saddest aspect of this ungodly mess is that it was totally preventable. How did Dems get duped into nominating a guy with little experience who'd never been vetted or tested?? Did Republicans rig the system by contributing to Obama?? Heads should roll after this one, for sure. Are you listening Nancy, Donna and Howard??

McCain Promises to Appoint Democrats to Cabinet

With McCain's best pal Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut in real danger of losing his chairmanship in the next Congress, McCain will no doubt tap the former Democratic vice presidential candidate to help him run things at the White House.

But that ain't all...

NewsMax reports that McCain has pledged to appoint more than just one token Democrat, which of course would be one more than Mr. War President ever did.

Republican John McCain pledged if elected president to appoint Democrats to his Cabinet, saying there's nothing partisan about tackling the nation's toughest problems.

"I don't know how many, but I can tell you, with all due respect to previous administrations, it is not going to be a single ... 'Well we have a Democrat now.' It's going to be the best people in America," the GOP presidential nominee told CBS' "Face the Nation," in an interview taped Saturday that will be broadcast in full Sunday.

How's that for a little unity, DNC?? Gone is the exclusive mantle of change by Obama and the hits keep on coming.

Another Obama Dog Whistle

A few days ago in York, Pa., Obama raised the issue of Gov. Sarah Palin's gender; and not in a very nice way. Obama is getting a little peeved with all the love the lady governor is robbing him of.

San Francisco Gate writes that when speaking to reporters last Thursday, a visibly riled Obama reminded them that Palin was now playing in the big league with the BIG BOYS; there would be no gentlemanly courtesies for Miss Barracuda. In responding to criticism about his response to Palin's experience as a small town mayor, Obama fired back that he had assumed Palin wanted to be treated just the same as any man.

Gov. Palin's work as mayor was fair game. "I assume she wants to be treated the same ways that guys want to be treated," he said. "I've been through this for 19 months, she's been through it for four days or so."
Now allow the full power of Obama's words to sink in and then allow the howler to change the wording and scenery.

After Obama loses the Democratic nomination to Hillary -- even though he received the most votes -- picture in your mind wily McCain selecting Michael Williams as his running mate.

Who is Michael Williams?? He is the popular African-American chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, a powerful agency that doles out $$$ for just about everything in Texas.

Of course Obama supporters feel disenfranchised. Hillary just skipped over Obama and asked former Gov. Tom Vilsack of Iowa to join her ticket.

In his acceptance speech, Williams goes after Hillary with a vengeance, pushing back against the charge that he has no foreign policy experience.

Hillary's response a few days later??

"Ahem, in spite of Mr. Williams's historical race as the first African-American vice presidential candidate ever, he still DOESN'T have any foreign policy experience. And the subject of experience during a presidential campaign is always 'fair game.' Please pardon me if I thought the boy wanted to connect to informed, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens and explain to them what credentials he has."

Hmmm, still don't get it...? Well, Bud White at No Quarter comments on the subject to help you understand:

[B]y saying that Palin “wants to be treated same way guys want to be treated,” Obama is drawing attention to her gender and implying that if she complains of his tactics that she’s not as tough as the “guys.” This is classic Obama sexism: it’s the condescending put-down meant to disempower his female opponent by playing into stereotypes.
In other words, it's a loud dog whistle -- equal to the periodic clawing Obama conjured up during the Democratic primaries.

Slapped...

"Please don't play the 'race' card," McCain's campaign loudly telegraphed Obama.

With sinking poll numbers and most of the wind beneath the sails of John and Sarah's campaign airship, Obama is once again reduced to playing the race card.

Barack Obama’s suggestion that the McCain campaign is somehow trying to paint him with ‘Muslim connections’ is false, and a cynical attempt to play the victim," Rick Davis, Sen. John McCain's campaign manager, said today. "We’ve seen Barack Obama use these tactics before -- and they’re just as offensive and wrong as they were the last time."

Davis was referring to comments Obama made Friday in Duryea, Pa., in which the Democrat said that Republicans, "when they say, 'This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,' what they’re really saying is, 'We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.'"

Give it a rest; this is the general election and collective guilt doesn't work too well with bitter, gun-toting folks in Middle America.

H/T Political Punch.

"Yes, We're All Stupid...and Here's Why"

Every now and then Howling Latina comes across a post that brilliantly spells out what she's thinking; and today she came across a post written by Dr. Lynette Long that charts Long's internal thinking in choosing Sarah Palin over Biden in November.

Now no need to add commentary; the howler is simply inserting a few paragraphs from the post and strongly urges EVERY person who reads this to visit Alegre's Corner and read the full piece.

After the last Democratic Primary was over...I personally explained to Senator McCain that women comprise well over half of the population, yet are underrepresented in every branch of government. I asked him loudly and clearly to choose a woman for the VP slot and to increase the number of women in the cabinet and on the Supreme Court. Senator McCain listened respectfully to my request...

After the Democratic Primary, I was personally in contact with a member of Obama's Finance Committee. He left several messages on my office phone, "urging" me to support Senator Obama. We had numerous contentious conversations and I finally told him I would be happy to vote for Senator Obama and rally other Hillary supporters to vote for Obama but in return I wanted Obama to pledge gender parity in the cabinet..."What if there aren't qualified women you still expect us to appoint half women to the cabinet?" he replied. I was confused. "There are 300 million people in this country; you're telling me you can't find ten qualified women?" He responded, "You can't have that." We had no further conversations. There was nothing more to say.

...Children incorporate many of their perceptions about gender by age five. Little girls won't understand if Sarah Palin is pro-life or pro-choice, believes in gun control or is a member of the NRA, but they will know the Vice-President of the United States of America is a girl and that alone will alter their perceptions of themselves.

Yes, Obama, earmarks aside (which news to earth, rank way below just about everything important to women), Hillary supporters are so stupid that we think voting for Sarah Palin might be just the right ticket. It's the X factor, like Dr. Long avows. Boys and girls, go read the whole thing...

Charlie Rose - Sarah Palin

Short clip of Sarah Palin before she was plucked out of nowhere by McCain except... she really wasn't. Sarah was fast becoming a star in her own right.

The Gentle Lady from California Has Mean Points to Make

Say what you will about Barbara Boxer, but the California senator is dead-on with her response to McSame's address at the Republican National Convention.

Last night at the Republican National Convention, John McCain used the word "fight" more than 40 times in his speech.

In the 16 years that we have served together in the Senate, I have seen John McCain fight.

I have seen him fight against raising the federal minimum wage 14 times.

I have seen him fight against making sure that women earn equal pay for equal work.
I have seen him fight against a women's right to choose so consistently that he received a zero percent vote rating from pro-choice organizations.

I have seen him fight against helping families gain access to birth control.

I have seen him fight against Social Security, even going so far as to call its current funding system "an absolute disgrace."

And I saw him fight against the new GI Bill of Rights until it became politically untenable for him to do so.

John McCain voted with President Bush 95 percent of the time in 2007 and 100 percent of the time in 2008 -- that's no maverick.

We do have two real fighters for change in this election -- their names are Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

How's that for a not-so-gentle slap across the face??

H/T The Thinking Woman.

"She is Not on the Ticket, So Why Should She Intervene?"

Today we have a lovely item by good ol' Anne E. Kornblut of Washington Post. Supposedly, the premise of her article is to underscore how Republicans are crying "sexism" when the gentle lady from Alaska is only getting a taste of the national sandwich served to Hillary with pepper sauce ever since she arrived at the national canteen when hubby was running for president in the early 90s.

For most of the article, Kornblut meanders from one meaningless observations to another before she gets to the heart of the banquet. If Obama loses in November, it will be Hillary's fault and her army of loyalists.

Now, not "every awkward detail of Palin's personal life is an acceptable target", Kornblut warns, and Democrats, reporters and bloggers should not "pursue Palin in all of the aggressive ways that Clinton has been grilled for most of her political life." However, let's get one thing straight. Hillary's strident media coverage was partially her fault. You see, she didn't "always openly answe[r] questions about her own record" and gasp, she also had the temerity to "manipulate", yes, "manipulate her femininity to her advantage when it suited her political needs."

Moreover, and here comes the most damning indictment, why isn't Hillary out there campaigning for Obama, 24/7??

Clinton has been surprisingly quiet in the days since Palin was nominated. She issued a bland statement the day McCain announced his surprise pick...Last Thursday, Clinton put out just her second statement about Palin, saying she wanted to "slightly amend" one of her best zingers in Denver: "No way, no how, no McCain-Palin." And while Clinton is scheduled to stump in central Florida Monday on Sen. Barack Obama's behalf, the trip is not, according to people in both Democrats' camps, designed as a direct response to the debut of the second female vice presidential nominee in U.S. history.
Of course, if Hillary were the Democratic vice presidential candidate, things would look a whole lot different, wouldn't they, my little kool aid drinkers...

But thank the divine keepers of political discourse that Obama's campaign doesn't have such a divisive person as Hillary on their presidential ticket. In the meantime, Obamanation better get used to the idea that everyone in the entire country and world knows they screwed up big time when they didn't choose the most qualified candidate with the most votes who was a woman; and how very clever of McCain to take advantage of Dem stupidity by snapping up a woman of lesser mettle in Hillary's stead.

Earth to media gasbags and blogger boyzz and girlzz, this is "why Palin's emergence has given the increasingly tight 2008 campaign a kind of symmetry", the great equalizer, if you will, as even Anne recognizes at the end of her article. Please leave Hillary and her supporters out of this Obama fiasco.

Update: Patty Davis begs Hillary to please do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to save the day; it's a very scary world.

Sixty-One Links to Palin's Heart

Corrente provides a superlink that subsequently links to stories about Alaska's lady governor from The McClatchy Company via Anchorage Daily News. You see, McClatchy happens to own the Anchorage.

From Troopergate to polar bears, it's all there, folks.

H/T Corrente.

Election Day Menu

As Gov. Sarah Palin goes around the country decrying blatant sexism by media and blogger boyzz in helping Sen. John McSame keep the White House in safe Republican hands, Obama's campaign has increasingly become more and more desperate to have Hillary save his sorry ass.

Inside the fold, The New York Times reports that Obama camp "will increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women to undercut [Palin] and Senator John McCain, dispatching [Hillary] to Florida on Monday and bolstering his plan to deploy female surrogates to battleground states."

Well good luck with that one...Hillary does have her own bitter life to live...

Advisers to Mrs. Clinton said that she stood ready to help the Obama-Biden ticket, but they...no[ed] that she had other commitments this fall, like campaigning and raising money for Senate candidates."
Senate candidates who will be LOYAL to her -- not The Chosen One.

Someone once said, life's a bitch and then you die. Or bitch, weep, wail, gnash teeth and wallow in what-ifs through eternity or until the next election. When Dems gave the big middle finger to Hillary and her 18 million supporters, a very special breakfast item was selected for Election Day: Obama crispy toast on Nov. 4.

More Bad Polling News

This time from CBS. And it's still early September, boys and girls.

Yes, we can. Lose, that is. And we will. All because we refused to listen to the will of the people as registered in votes -- not caucuses -- during the primaries.

November is starting to look more and more like Sugar writes: "Unless we find out that Governor Palin and her husband have a crack cocaine operation in the basement of their Alaska home, John McCain and Sarah Palin are going to win this thing hands down."

Sexist, Sexist, Sexist

Despite media claims that it's just doing his job in hounding Gov. Sarah Palin and her family to find out the "truth" about this and that, Hillary supporters are refusing to drink the kool aid.

Politico reports that Clinton aides agree with Republican assertions that the media has been sexist and unfair toward Palin.

Oh, and so do "leading academics." In other words, any clear-thinking person with their head out of their anal cavities clearly sees what poor Obamazoids can't visualize due to the fatal illness of Barackamitis.
“There’s no way those questions would be asked of a male candidate,” said Howard Wolfson a former top strategist for Clinton’s presidential campaign.
A leading university professor without a dog in the fight also notes how media media coverage up to date has dripped with overt sexism.

Deborah Tannen, a Georgetown University professor and best-selling author on "gender differences" observes that "prominent voices in the news media...cross[ed] a line by speculating about whether the Alaska governor is neglecting her family in pursuit of national office."

“What we’re dealing with now, there’s nothing subtle about it,” said Tannen. “We’re dealing with the assumption that child-rearing is the job of women and
not men. Is it sexist? Yes.”
When talking about Palin, Ed Schultz of Air Obambi happily riles his drones by alerting them of a "bimbo alert." Sally Quinn of "Hillary is a tortured person" fame as well as other goodies from the past takes time out from her hosting duties in Georgetown to chime in about Palin. It's gone from the bitch who wouldn't quit to the uppity bitch who clings to guns and refuses to take care of her family.

Palin may be a “bright, attractive, impressive person,” but...“is she prepared for the all-consuming nature of the job?”

Of course not.
“Her first priority has to be her children,” Quinn wrote. “When the phone rings at 3 in the morning and one of her children is really sick what choice will she make?”
All well and good except the howler doesn't remember Quinn condemning Edwards when he continued to run for the roses after Elizabeth's cancer came back. Most in the media, as Politico reminds us, "praised [Edwards] for his perseverance" and didn't worry too much about any "misplaced priorities."

Oh, ye of double standard...

Lieberman to Get the Boot after Election Day

No doubt about it; read between the lines as reported by the Washington Post.

Extra, Extra, Read All About It

Clinton delegates report they were bullied at the Democratic convention, reports Los Angeles Times.

Clinton delegates say that during the four-day conclave, Obama delegates opposed efforts to schedule a full, 50-state roll call vote that would attest to Clinton’s true support. What happened instead was an abbreviated roll call vote, cut off by Clinton herself so that Obama would be nominated by acclamation.

Hmmm, wonder why Obama didn't want a full roll call. Could it be he thought he might just lose...?

As part of that push, some of the Clinton backers grouse, Obama supporters made
plain through pointed remarks that the Clinton delegates needed to switch sides
and vote for the eventual nominee.
Same song, different venue. Get over it...

Yes, we are getting over it; and Madabab has brand new spanking words to add to that old "Get over it" tune. "No, We’re Not Voting Obama. Get Over It!

On an ominous note, Times observes that Obama joins Al Smith, Geraldine Ferraro and Joe Lieberman as first-evers.

Former Democratic Presidential Candidate on Sarah Palin

Former Democratic presidential candidate and former govenor of Alaska, Mike Gravel, sends his love to Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate; and along the way, he wishes her the best.

Counterpunch has the scoop on the poop; and here are few morsels to go with your meal:

On rare occasions our nation has been lucky when new political leaders were selected from obscurity by circumstance. They weren’t indebted to the party bosses or special interests, but they rendered unusual and historic service in times of need. Washington, Lincoln, the first Roosevelt and Truman come to mind.

[...]

Foreign policy experience? Thank god she has none beyond that of a normal citizen subject to the militarization of our culture over the past 50 years, particularly so in Alaska with its strong military presence. The three other would-be leaders have tons of experience among them. But whether liberal or conservative all three are committed to a policy of American imperialism with the self-appointed role of world policeman. This role of trying to influence the world with our military might sustains bloated defense budgets that profit the few and impoverish the social and economic needs of the many.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, we learn Hillary supporters are still not falling in line, courtesy of The Confluence. Even after Obama's greatest speech since, well, since his next to last one, 20 percent of Hillary supporters still refuse to back him.

There is nothing Obama can say to gain our votes. His actions have spoken louder than any pretty speeches he could make. There is also nothing Hillary can say. She has done more than enough, and I support her very strongly, but I do not agree with her on everything, most notably her at-gunpoint support of Senator Obama. (Gasp!)

Some of us are leaving the top of the ticket blank, some are voting McKinney/ Clemente, some of us are voting Nader, and some of us are voting McCain. But just as we said long ago, we are NOT voting for the illegitimate, unqualified and unelectable Barack Obama.

Top Hillary Backer Jumps the Sharks...er...Barracuda

No Quarter reports that Greta Van Susteran's hubby who backed Hillary during the Democratic presidential primaries has jumped the shark and gone to swim with the barracuda. He's supporting McCain in the general election.

Can't imagine why...

It's Not My Fault, Man@#!^!

When something goes awry, it's never Obama's fault.

Don't believe...? Here's a link and a few passages from Politico that absolutely prove it.

Just hours after his campaign issued a first statement Friday ripping the addition of Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket, Barack Obama backed away from that statement — or at least its tone — and said that his own campaign had misrepresented him.

[...]

When asked about his campaign’s attack on Palin, attributed to top spokesman Bill Burton, at a Friday afternoon media availability at a Pennsylvania biodiesel plant, Obama referred to a statement he and running mate Joe Biden had since issued that hardly touched on policy issues and called Palin “an admirable person and … a compelling new voice.”

Obama disavowed his campaign’s first response, telling journalists that “I think that, uh, you know, campaigns start getting these, uh, hair triggers and, uh, the statement that Joe and I put out reflects our sentiments,” he said.

Nothing is ever Obama's fault. Nothing. Not even words coming straight out of his mouth.

The Gonzo Files

Back in 2007, The Wall Street Journal was outraged because former National Security Adviser under President Bill Clinton knowingly breached security by taking classified files home.

Well, the howler hates to keep repeating herself but the law of karma is once again back. Today we learn that former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales knowingly "mishandled classified data."

A few months after Gonzales became attorney general, Berger was forced to plea bargain to a misdemeanor, give up his law license as well as his security clearance. Berger also had to pay a $50,000 fine and was "sentenced to serve two years of probation and 100 hours of community service."

Looks like poor Gonzo should've stayed in Texas practing law or doing whatever he was doing before Dubya asked him to come to Land of Oz; anyway you look at it, Gonzo's toast. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer enabler of EVIL. The same mercy he showed the poor death-row saps in Texas is the kind of justice he deserves and the law of karma will be sure he receives.

Normally that would be one tally for the side of Obama for president -- if only the howler could be sure that Mr. Unity would see to it that justice for the band of criminals in the White House would ever see the light of day.

As things stand today, not looking very promising.

Kick-Ass Post

To be or not to be, that "was" the question.

It's too late. The Dems chose Barack over Hillary with the full-throttle aid of identity politics.

Well, Cannonfire lets loose with a powerful post, which the howler is not only linking to but giving you his most potent point from her perspective, of course.
The Obots made a big mistake -- bigger than they could have guessed -- when they made this election about identity politics. To put the matter crudely, there are more women than African Americans in this country. The Democratic party has taken both groups for granted for too long. Now they may lose one -- the larger one.
Yes indeedy. How they sneered and laughed at those bitter femenistas who really had nowhere else to go until...

Enter Sarah Polin; and the rest as they say will be HISTORY! It's not personal, Obama; it's the new change agenda, we're sure you don't mind if we borrow your catchword.

The media had it right; just not the way you, Michelle, Nancy, Donna and Howard envisioned. Like it or not, get used to it.

Obama Condemns Rumors

The Associated Press via Washington Post informs readers that Obama has "condemn[ed] campaign rumors involving the children" of Gov. Sarah Paley. From here on out, Obama "will fire any campaign worker that violates his rule."

A mighty gallant gesture coming from the gentle lad from Illinois. And perfectly illustrates why Hillary supporters are still a tad pissed off at the Democratic presidential nominee. He could've easily made the same courtly gesture when Clyburn, Olby, Shuster, Matthews, the blogger boyzz and the rest of the gamy gang were busy calling Hillary and Bill racists and demonizing them and everything they had done for their country.

Yes, by his silence, Obama gave comfort to the atrocious lies.

Hmmm, come to think about it, perhaps a good apology directed at Hillary supporters might go a long way to truly reconciling the party instead of the sham theatre in Denver that nobody bought.

Update: McCain bitch slaps the media via New York Times.
Asked if Ms. Palin would be able to juggle the demands of the vice presidency with her complicated family life, Mr. Schmidt said, “She’s been a very effective governor and again I can’t imagine that question being asked of a man.”

Sarah Palin Attracts Dems, Independents and Non-Voters

More bad news for the blogger boyzz and girlzz trying to demonize Gov. Sarah Palin.

Howling Latina decided to take a stroll down Leftyblog Lane, destination Alaska; and it sure does look like the howler's initial instinct was dead-on.

From Celtic Diva's Blue, a credentialed Democratic blogger, we have:

First: This is historic. She is the second female to run for office since 1984.

Second: I worked the polls when Sarah was elected. Dems voted for her, Independents voted for her, and non-voters voted for her.

Third: Both hubby & I worked on her campaign. Last night we were Obama supporters. Now? We are going to have to REALLY decide. This is going to be very tough for us.

Fourth: Don't underestimate her or dismiss her because of whatever. That would be a mistake and not persuasive for undecideds.

But by all means keep the blood hounds on Palin's trail lest we miss the delicious details of lovelorn teen drama in the Palin family. Meanwhile another compare and contrast exercise for the kool aid kiddies. Palin visited the troops and Obama did what?? Oh, yeah, that's right, he had other more urgent priorities.

H/T Bud White's World for image.

Rabbit Season...

The howler tried to tell you...

In the latest Zogby poll, any Obama-Biden ticket bump after Denver has disappeared quicker than a terrified jack rabbit after a few close shots from a rifle-wielding hunter.

Kinna like the Republican convension so far, alas, nothing there to see except the continuation of Obama's numbers going south.

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.
Even more interesting is the pesky fact that Biden added absolutely nothing to the ticket with 86 percent support for Obama by Dems before the Biden pick and 86 percent support afterward. On the other hand, McCain's selection of Gov. Sarah Palin solidified his support among Republicans from 86 percent to 92 percent.
